Een oude Katholieke kapel is herbestemd tot één zeer ruimtelijke woning. Het karakter van de kleine kerk is behouden. Door toevoeging van extra daklichten valt diffuus wit licht binnen en konden de gebrandschilderde ramen behouden blijven. Door de spierwitte afwerking komen de kleuren van het glas in loos extra tot leven op de vloeren en de wanden.

In het centrum van de kerkruimte worden de nieuwe elementen tegen elkaar gezet.
- Vikkii Church, JKMM Architects, Helsinki, Finland
Located in Finland in the Ostrobothnia region, near the campus of Helsinki University on the eastern side of the city, JKMM Architects won a national competition to design the Vikkii Urban Centre. The focal point of the Centre is a church clad in aspen shingles that have turned grey since construction was completed in 2005. Throughout Europe new church design is not synonymous with modernity, so when the Parish of Helsinki approached the architects at JKMM, they welcomed the opportunity to contribute to a newly developed urban area housing approximately 13,000 residents.

De oorspronkelijke structuur van het klooster is helemaal herkenbaar gebleven. In de kloosterkerk zijn prachtige ruimten ontstaan die dienst doen als lounge met receptie, bar, bibliotheek en een intieme ontbijtruimte. De kloosteratmosfeer blijft behouden, met een gevoel van onderkoelde luxe. In de kloostertuin is ook een nieuwbouw gerealiseerd. Het ontwerp, een plastiek, is volledig uitgevoerd in Corten-staal. Het zal zich uitermate goed voegen in deze historische omgeving.
- Church of the Holy Cross, Khr Arkitekter, Jyllinge, Denmark
This church is located in the small town of Jyllinge, Denmark its designed by the danish architects Khr. The building was inspired by the natural landscape and cultural heritage of the town. For instance, the steep incline of the face references the nearby fjord, while fishing net is used inside as a space divider. The overall form has two solid forms that overlap to emphasize the nave. The church also connects to its immediate exterior through large windows that link it to an outdoor amphitheatre.
- St. Bartholomew’s Church, Qubus Studio, Chodovice, Eastern Bohemia
Czech designer Maxim Velcovsky has redesigned the interior of a church in Eastern Bohemia, using customised design classics, rugs and chandeliers. Working with designer Jakub Berdych under the Qubus Studio banner, the interior features Verner Panton chairs customised with a punched crucifix, Persian rugs and chandeliers of rough-cut crystal.

The challenge for the Amsterdam based architects Merkx + Girod was staying true to the original character and charm of the church, while also achieving a desirable amount of commercial space. A multi-storey steel structure that houses the majority of the books was constructed and placed along the central nave of the church under the vaulted ceiling.
